Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. She relocated to Oxfordshire when she was five and attended the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma knew that she was going to become an actor and, for a period of years, she trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre school in which she studied singing, dancing and acting. The stagecoach was her main performer and played the role of lead in various Stagecoach productions. In 1999 the casting process started for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) it was the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Casting agents came across Emma through her Oxford theatre teacher. After eight continuous auditions David Heyman informed Emma and Rupert Grint that they were chosen to play Hermione Granger and Harry Potter. Emma's first appearance on screen in cinema was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001). The film set records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. The film was praised by critics and the performances of three young actors who were the most prominent. The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper with a substantial circulation, praised her performance as "admirable". Emma was awarded the Young Artist Award as Leading Young Actress in the Feature Film in the same year, and was nominated for five prizes. Emma was one of the most well-known actors following the movie's success.
